Walking through Kyoto in search of dinner after leaving Demachiyanagi.
Peeking into narrow alleys and wandering through shopping streets, I eventually found a tonkatsu restaurant in Sanjo Meitengai.
Date visited: February 18, 2026 (Wednesday)
The journey continued even after I had secured my Demachi Futaba daifuku.

Walking through Sanjo Meitengai, I searched for a place to eat.
It was cold.
And I was hungry.
Then I found Katsukura, a tonkatsu restaurant.
Choosing to go in turned out to be the right decision.
I ordered a loin katsu-jū and a glass of rosé wine.
Only then did I realize that it was still only my second meal of the day.
During my Shikoku pilgrimage walks, days like this were common.
Perhaps that is why I feel especially grateful for a warm meal after a long day on the road.
The restaurant was filled with international visitors.
An elderly staff member was doing his best to serve customers in English.
Everyone was trying their best in their own way.
Pickles, shredded cabbage, and miso soup were all refillable.
Lucky me.
I went back for another serving of cabbage.
My body seemed to be craving vegetables.
Then I happened to glance toward the entrance.
Outside, a long queue had already formed.
That was close.
Had I arrived a little later, I might not have gotten a seat.

A loin katsu-jū and a glass of rosé wine.
At the end of a day spent walking, the warmth of the meal slowly returned energy to my body.
Refilling my cabbage bowl, I felt myself quietly recovering.
To be honest, the seasoning was a little stronger than I expected.
Beer might have paired better with the meal than wine.
Still, I had no complaints.
Only gratitude.
Walking.
Getting lost.
Feeling tired.
And finally finding a warm place to sit down.
That alone was enough.
As I ate my cabbage, I felt myself slowly returning to normal.
Today was a quiet day of recovery.
I walked a lot.
I ate well.
Tomorrow, it is back to everyday life.
Back to a world where the Showa era no longer quite fits.
