Visited: April 15, 2026 (Wednesday) – Rainy
Walking through Arashiyama in the rain.
As I returned from Senkoji Temple, the quiet atmosphere had disappeared.
Tour buses.
Souvenir shops.
A sea of umbrellas.
It was difficult to move forward.
I’ve visited Tenryu-ji several times before.
“Not today,” I thought.
Instead, I stepped into the bamboo grove.
No matter how many times I visit, the atmosphere changes the moment I enter.
After enjoying that brief moment of silence, I continued toward Rakushisha.
Crimson Maples in Spring?
As I walked, bright red maple leaves caught my eye.
“Hmm?”
It wasn’t autumn.
Getting closer, I realized they belonged to the garden of a café.
A sign read,
“The Most Beautiful Café in Kyoto.”
I was also looking for a place to escape the rain.
Why not take a short break?
Without expecting much, I opened the door.

A café hidden behind crimson maple leaves on a rainy day in Arashiyama. More than the rain itself, it was the quiet pause that stayed in my memory.
My First Impression: Is This Really Tiramisu?
The interior felt unusual.
It looked more like an antique shop than a café.
The staff seemed a little reserved.
I ordered the tiramisu set with a caramel macchiato for ¥1,500.
When it arrived, I couldn’t help smiling.
“Haha…
Is this really tiramisu?”
It was small.
Even its appearance made me wonder.
That was my first impression.

A caramel macchiato and a small slice of tiramisu.
On a rainy day, taking a break is part of the journey.
Wait…
One bite.
“Wait…”
Rich.
Creamy.
Delicious.
It completely exceeded my expectations.
Every drink in the set cost the same.
So, of course, I chose the caramel macchiato.
That little feeling of getting something extra made the experience even more enjoyable.
Where’s the Kitchen?
I looked around the café.
Behind the entrance counter was a tiny space, barely two square meters.
A microwave.
A toaster.
A refrigerator hidden from view.
“What can they possibly make here?”
Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much.
That’s exactly why the tiramisu surprised me so much.
The best travel memories often come from experiences that quietly exceed your expectations.
On Rainy Days, Taking a Break Is Part of the Journey
A group of visitors from India was sitting nearby.
They chatted happily, filling the café with lively voices.
For someone used to the quiet atmosphere of Japanese cafés, it felt a little unexpected.
Then I remembered that, in many countries, cafés are places where friends and families gather to talk and spend time together.
Travel is also about discovering different cultures.
Outside the window, crimson maple leaves swayed in the rain.
Behind me lay the bamboo grove.
Ahead waited Rakushisha and Nison-in Temple.
On a rainy day, there is no need to rush.
Sometimes sitting down and resting becomes part of the journey itself.
The tiramisu I hadn’t expected much from became unforgettable,
not only because of its flavor,
but because of the quiet moment that came with it.
