🍵Beauty & Taste| Lunch in Akashi at 3 PM? Tamagoyaki at Takoiso Annex

Visit date: September 19, 2026 (Saturday) — Sunny

Akashi at 3:00 p.m.
Can I still find lunch?

Uonotana at 3 PM. Now what?

I arrived in Akashi around 3:00 p.m.

I still hadn’t had lunch.

Actually, I already knew.

Finding lunch in Akashi at this hour isn’t easy.

The last time I came to Akashi, I wandered around looking for somewhere to eat too.

The restaurant I went to that time was open again today.

But…

If I’m here, I want to try somewhere new.

So off I went, looking for another place.

“This one looks good.”

Lunch service over.

Next one—over.

And another—over.

Then I found somewhere open.

A standing bar.

I’m not good with standing bars.

After walking around, I want to sit down and enjoy my meal slowly.

I knew this already, and yet…

Uonotana at 3 PM is still a challenge.

One street away from the main arcade

How many places had I passed by?

I left Uonotana’s main shopping street and went one street back.

And there it was:

Takoiso Annex.

This is a different location from the Takoiso on Uonotana’s main street.

Neither the exterior nor the interior says,

“Look at me!”

It’s a small, simple place.

But one thing made me very happy that day:

the air conditioning worked really well.

I walk a lot when I travel.

So for me, mealtime isn’t just about eating. It’s also an important chance to rest.

Rather than eating at an outdoor table, I prefer sitting comfortably inside, with heating or air conditioning, and taking my time over my food.

After walking around in the heat, I sat down in the cool restaurant.

Ahhh. Saved.

Do you still have octopus rice?

Then I spotted octopus rice on the menu.

I want that.

But…

It was already sold out.

Too bad.

Later, I checked the official website and found that the lunch menu at the Annex runs from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

…Of course.

It was already 3:00.

Too late.

Even if a restaurant is still open, some menu items may no longer be available later in the day.

Something to keep in mind when looking for lunch at 3 PM.

Five octopus + five conger eel

Collage of Akashiyaki at Takoiso Annex in Akashi, with five octopus and five conger eel pieces served with dashi broth, plus the menu and sauce

In Akashi, the dish widely known as Akashiyaki is locally called Tamagoyaki.

So I ordered:

the half-and-half set—five with octopus and five with conger eel.

It was ¥1,000 when I visited.

Akashiyaki usually means octopus.

But here, I could try conger eel too.

That makes things a little more fun.

The hot Akashiyaki arrived, and I started the classic way—with dashi broth.

Hot!

Being sensitive to hot food makes this quite a challenge.

Blow, blow…

One bite.

Light.

Very delicate.

But something surprised me.

The octopus tastes clearly like octopus.

And when I try the conger eel, I can really taste the eel.

The seasoning doesn’t overpower the ingredients.

Instead, their own flavors come forward.

Dashi, sauce, and then both

Akashiyaki is traditionally eaten dipped in dashi broth.

But I like changing things up.

I usually enjoy it three ways.

First,

with dashi.

Next,

with sauce.

And finally,

sauce first, then into the dashi.

I’m not saying this is the “correct” way to eat it.

It’s simply how I like to enjoy it.

Since I had the chance, I also tasted the dashi on its own.

Just as I thought,

very lightly seasoned.

And yet, once I dipped the Akashiyaki into it, it didn’t feel bland at all.

If anything, the gentle broth lets the octopus and conger eel keep their own flavors.

Ah, I see.

Maybe that’s exactly why such a delicate dashi works.

The opposite of Osaka takoyaki?

They’re both round and made from batter.

But the impression is very different from Osaka-style takoyaki.

If you love takoyaki covered generously with sauce and mayonnaise, this delicate flavor might feel a little too subtle.

I like lightly seasoned food, so…

Oh, I like this.

The exterior isn’t flashy.

The interior isn’t flashy.

The seasoning isn’t flashy either.

But once I tasted the food, I found myself wondering:

Maybe they let the flavor do the talking?

That was my impression of this little place.

Customers keep coming in—even after 3 PM

While I was eating, more customers kept coming through the door.

Even though it was already past 3:00.

Hmm?

Maybe I’m not the only one looking for somewhere to eat at this hour.

I thought about that while blowing on another piping-hot Akashiyaki.

I had struggled so much to find somewhere outside.

But here, I could finally sit down in the air-conditioned restaurant and enjoy my food slowly.

If you’re looking for lunch in Akashi at 3 PM

After 3:00 p.m., some restaurants have already finished their lunch service.

Even when a restaurant is still open, its lunch menu may have ended.

If you’re planning a late lunch, it’s a good idea to check for restaurants that stay open between lunch and dinner.

If you want more choices, go a little earlier.

I wandered around again this time, but…

I found a place I hadn’t tried before.

Next, a little break at Akashi Station

I walked more than expected while looking for a late lunch.

The Akashiyaki was delicious.

But it was a light lunch.

I still had a little room left.

And after all that walking,

I wanted to sit down and take a break.

So I headed back to Akashi Station.

Next up: cake and tea.
