Weather: Rain, with a thunderstorm for a while
I arrived at Osakajokoen Station at around 1:30 p.m.
Originally, I had planned to visit Osaka Castle first thing in the morning.
But my plans had already fallen apart earlier that day, and by the time I finally arrived, lunchtime was long past.
Before heading to Osaka Castle, I needed something to eat.
So I went to Sachifukuya JO-TERRACE OSAKA.

From Osakajokoen Station, I headed to JO-TERRACE OSAKA.
I chose Sachifukuya for lunch, checked the menu outside,
and ordered a fried chicken set meal.
1:30 p.m. — Still Busy Inside
The main lunchtime rush had already passed.
Even so, the restaurant didn’t feel particularly quiet.
Customers came and went fairly quickly, though, and I was able to get a counter seat without waiting.
There were plenty of tables as well, but depending on the size of your group and the timing, you might have to wait.
The restaurant was clean.
There seemed to be quite a few younger customers, but I also saw people who appeared to be visiting from overseas, as well as older customers.
Orders are placed using a QR code.
You scan it with your smartphone and order from there.
This kind of ordering system sometimes makes me stop and think, “Hmm?”
But this time, I had no particular trouble with it.
Now then.
What should I eat?

The fried chicken set meal I ordered.
It came with multigrain rice, miso soup, small side dishes, pickles, and orange.
I chose the:

For the rice, I chose the 15-grain option.
A lot had already happened since morning, so I wanted a proper meal before heading to Osaka Castle.
But.
There was another problem with this lunch that had nothing to do with the food.
Where Do I Put My Backpack?
I couldn’t see a basket for bags at the counter seat.
I didn’t really want to put my backpack directly on the floor.
So I had no choice but to hang it over the back of my chair.
But then I started wondering whether it might get in the way of people walking behind me, and it was also awkward when I needed to get something out of it.
When sightseeing, you tend to have more things with you.
A basket for bags would have been helpful.
It’s a small thing, but once you actually sit down, these details start to matter.
And then there was another issue.
This one wasn’t small.
The toilet.
“I Should Have Used the Toilet at the Station”
When I arrived at Osakajokoen Station, there was a line for the toilet.
Surely there’ll be one in the restaurant.
That’s what I thought, so I walked straight past.
But there was no toilet inside the restaurant.
I asked a staff member and went looking for the shared toilets.
Since the building contains several restaurants, there are shared toilets.
I checked the signs too.
But in the end, I could only find one of the two locations indicated.
And there was a long line.
I couldn’t wait that long.
So I went back to my seat.
By this point, what was on my mind wasn’t
Osaka Castle,
or fried chicken.
It was:
the toilet.
How sad.
Sweet and Savory. And Spicy.
So, in that state, I started eating my fried chicken.
The sauce was sweet and savory, with a strong, distinct flavor.
And then there was the heat.
Perhaps chili oil?
For someone like me who doesn’t handle spicy food well, it was definitely spicy.
I couldn’t stop sweating.
Looking through the menu, I got the impression that many of the dishes were likely to have fairly bold flavors.
There were also quite a few younger customers in the restaurant.
Perhaps this kind of clearly defined, strong flavor is popular.
But that’s only my guess.
I prefer lightly seasoned food in the first place, and I’m not good with spicy food.
Someone else eating exactly the same dish might think, “This is just right,” or “This goes perfectly with rice.”
Everyone’s tastes are different.
How Does ¥1,650 Feel?
Fried Chicken with Savory Sauce Set Meal: ¥1,650.
If I were eating an everyday set meal somewhere in Osaka, that would feel a little expensive to me.
But this is Osaka Castle Park.
It’s close to the station and conveniently located on the way to Osaka Castle.
Taking the location into account, ¥1,650 may actually be a fairly accessible price for a meal in a major sightseeing area.
The restaurant was clean, and customers moved through fairly quickly.
On the other hand, when I visited, the staff seemed very busy and didn’t appear to have much time to spare.
Rather than somewhere to sit back and enjoy leisurely service, it seems better suited to:
stopping for a substantial set meal while sightseeing around Osaka Castle.
Could This Article Be Useful to Someone?
My “Beauty & Taste” articles are quite biased.
I like lightly seasoned food.
I’m not good with spicy food.
I care about the price.
I even care about where I can put my backpack.
So this is probably a little different from a restaurant review intended for everyone.
But this time, the taste wasn’t the only thing that caused me trouble.
I had nowhere convenient to put my bag at the counter.
There was no toilet inside the restaurant, so I had to search for the shared toilets.
And when I finally found one, there was a long line.
These may seem like minor details in an ordinary restaurant review.
But:
If something caused trouble for me, there may be at least one other person who will have the same problem.
My information is inevitably shaped by my own perspective.
And my impressions are personal.
Still, I think it’s worth leaving a record of the things that actually caused me trouble.
If the next person who reads this thinks,
“I’d better use the toilet at Osakajokoen Station,”
that’s enough for me.
